First, the film rocked a newly minted millennium, then there were four sequels and the musical shook Broadway seven years later, then four more movies. Now everyone’s favorite green ogre is on the road and headed to the beaches of Alabama.

The characters from Shrek will take the stage at the Orange Beach Performing Arts Center from January 30 to February 2, 2025, as part of the Expect Excellence Theater's production of Shrek the Musical

Evening shows are scheduled for 7 p.m. on January 30 and 31, with 2 p.m. matinées on February 1 and 2.

Director Jacob Morris emphasized the musical’s uplifting message about embracing individuality, a theme that resonates with audiences of all ages. Cast member Kat Vittetoe highlighted the humor and relatability of the show, which celebrates diversity and self-acceptance.

The production, involving nearly 100 cast and crew members, features intricate sets, including a 10-foot animated dragon that breathes smoke. After three months of preparation, the team is eager to showcase their work.

Morris encouraged audiences to experience the magic of live theater, noting its unique emotional impact. Tickets are $15, available at our.show/orange-beach-shrek, or at the Performing Arts Center box office (open weekdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., phone 251-923-0043).

The Orange Beach Performing Arts Center is located at 23908 Canal Road on the Orange Beach Middle/High School campus.

A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.
