Free Concert by the Baldwin Pops Plans at Coastal Art Center

Gulf Shores Event News

The Baldwin Pops has been home to local musicians of all ages since 1997. All of their members share the enjoyment of playing their instruments, love of good music, and the desire to perform for appreciative audiences. The Pops programs encompass a variety of genres, including classical, broadway, big band, dixieland, jazz, and marches.

The Baldwin Pops will perform a free concert this Sunday, September 29th, at 3pm. The event will be held in the courtyard of the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach, located at 26389 Canal Road.

This concert is a tribute to first responders, with a special surprise guest scheduled. A VIP section will be reserved for active and retired first responders, along with their families.

The courtyard offers shade from large trees and soft grass for those bringing blankets. There is also paved space for those seeking stability. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets for comfort. Snacks and refreshments are welcome, and there is plenty of parking available for visitors.

The Official Mission Of The Baldwin Pops:

• Contribute to musical life in Baldwin County, giving our concert audiences personal experiences with quality music.

• Provide our members with an opportunity for artist expression and musical growth by attaining professional standards of quality.

• Stimulate interest in the community band movement through clinics, tours, recordings, publications and commission.

• Assist in the musical education of young people - the future generation of adult musicians, through concerts, clinics, festivals and scholarships.

• Reaffirm the heritage of bands in America by broadening appreciation of the depth and variety of music that only a concert band can offer.

That special time of the year has arrived where beachgoers share the sand with turtles that nest and lay up to 100 eggs per clutch along the beach. The annual nesting season for many of thee sea turtles has been happening long before some of the people ever frolicked amongst the waves. The average life span of most sea turtles is 50 to 100 years and they often return to their place of birth to deposit eggs for the next generation.

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.
