Golf Tournament Supports Dog Rescues

gulf shores area golf news

Save Underdogs LLC, a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating abused and abandoned dogs, is hosting its 8th Annual Golf Tournament on October 21, 2024. The event will take place at the Perdido Bay Golf Course, with a shotgun start at 11am. Participants must be 21 or older to join.

The tournament is part of Save Underdogs’ ongoing efforts to raise funds for their mission. Founded in 2004 by Ben and Terri Bondi, the organization has helped over 7,000 dogs find new homes. The funds raised from this event will assist in covering veterinary costs, food, and care for dogs in foster homes as they prepare for adoption.

The entry fee is $125 per player or $500 for a team of four. It includes green fees, cart fees, range balls, two mulligans, and a hole-in-one entry. Breakfast sandwiches will be served before the start of the tournament, and food and beverages will be available throughout the day. Winners will receive special baskets, and the winning team’s name will be added to a plaque displayed at Perdido Key Sports Bar & Restaurant.

In addition to the tournament, participants and supporters can sponsor a hole or donate items for a raffle. A custom mosaic surfboard and a fishing charter are among the highlighted raffle prizes.

With continued community support, Save Underdogs can rescue more dogs, providing them with the care and love they need before being placed in their "forever homes."

That special time of the year has arrived where beachgoers share the sand with turtles that nest and lay up to 100 eggs per clutch along the beach. The annual nesting season for many of thee sea turtles has been happening long before some of the people ever frolicked amongst the waves. The average life span of most sea turtles is 50 to 100 years and they often return to their place of birth to deposit eggs for the next generation.

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.

It’s Saturday morning, the second day of the 6A Section 1 Track Meet at Saraland High School. Coach Brewer has piloted the Dolphins bus to this place several times this season, but today a thick, milky fog has engulfed the panorama, limiting the vision of what’s ahead, save for head coach Jason Hill. He’s studied today’s upcoming events and is hopeful for the upset.
