Kids Join 'Voyage to the Lost Isle' at Island Church

Gulf Shores Area Events

The final countdown is on for Adventure Week, ‘Voyage to the Lost Isle’ with the Island Church in Orange Beach. The kid’s ministry team, better known as the ‘Island Kids Team’, welcomes local and visiting children every summer for four nights of high-energy bible-based fun. Each year is a new adventure themed in interesting and exciting ways for everyone to get involved while learning more about Christ.

In past years, children have explored the outback, taken a jungle cruise with animal encounters from OBCR, and traveled far East for an ancient dig that led them to truth and some cool artifacts. The kids are grouped by age with a team color. Kids and leaders/volunteers are encouraged to participate in nightly outfit and swag suggestions with their groups. The sanctuary, kid’s theater and other rooms in the church will all serve as stations where kids will travel with their ‘crew mates’ on this year's voyage. The rooms will feature things like fun bible stories, interactive show and tell, competitive games, snacks and fun crafts, designed to help them “learn about God’s plan for their lives through crazy character’s”, and more.

Children's Pastor for the Island Church, Mrs. Natalie Westbrook, expresses her excitement for this year’s bible story navigation stating how kids will get to explore and “discover that God can change our hearts, make us new, and use us to do incredible things for His Kingdom.” Adventure week is for kindergarten through 6th grade, July 29th - August 1st from 6PM-8:30PM. Registration will remain open, so no child has to miss out on this adventure. The cost is $50 per child with other payment options available. For more information or to register, please visit

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.

It’s Saturday morning, the second day of the 6A Section 1 Track Meet at Saraland High School. Coach Brewer has piloted the Dolphins bus to this place several times this season, but today a thick, milky fog has engulfed the panorama, limiting the vision of what’s ahead, save for head coach Jason Hill. He’s studied today’s upcoming events and is hopeful for the upset.
