Gulf Shores culinary news

In just one month football season will be back for the fans. A local tradition is to kick off the season with amazing tailgate foods. The best part is that you can attend the Coastal Tailgate Challenge and still catch your game on the 23rd of August.

Organized by the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber, this event uniquely blends the excitement of football season with the creativity of the region’s most talented culinary teams and enthusiastic local cooks. Whether you’re a die-hard sports fan, passionate foodie, or someone who simply loves community events, this cook-off offers something special for everyone.

The Coastal Tailgate Cook-Off Challenge isn’t your typical food festival—it’s a full-fledged, game-day-inspired showdown. The air will be filled with the aromas of sizzling grills and the buzz of friendly rivalry as teams compete to claim the coveted golden ticket: a spot at the World Food Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana. This year’s winner will have the honor of representing Coastal Alabama in the fiercely competitive sandwich category at the national level.

  • Tasting Experience: Event-goers will have the chance to sample a wide variety of tailgate-inspired dishes, featuring creative spins on classics and inventive new eats—all expertly crafted by both professional and amateur chefs.
  • People’s Choice Award: Your vote matters. Attendees will be invited to cast ballots for their favorite team, and the People’s Choice champions will earn a trophy and a special prize package. It’s a fun way for everyone to get involved and support their local favorites.
  • Best-Dressed Fan Prize: The event encourages football fandom in style! Wear your favorite team’s colors and gear for a shot at winning the best-dressed fan award and an additional prize.

Family-Friendly Fun and Community Spirit

Beyond delicious bites and culinary competition, the Coastal Tailgate Cook-Off is known for its electric atmosphere and strong sense of community. The event is family-friendly, making it a perfect Saturday outing whether you’re bringing the kids, meeting friends, or looking for lively entertainment. The setting at The Wharf provides ample space, local vendors, and live entertainment to keep the excitement going throughout the afternoon.
