This weekend Foley Police were involved in a dramatic pursuit after a driver refused to stop for officers on State Highway 59. The chase began just before midnight as police attempted to pull over a vehicle for reckless driving. Instead of stopping, the driver sped away, leading officers on a pursuit that ended near the intersection of Abby Lane and State Highway 59. The incident drew a swift response from multiple agencies and emergency crews.

On the night of July 12, the suspect’s vehicle left the roadway and crashed, striking both a power pole and a natural gas valve. This caused a gas leak and created a risk of live electrical wires, posing a hazard to officers, first responders, and citizens who tried to help. Emergency crews from several departments, including fire and utility services, quickly arrived at the scene. After the power and gas lines were made safe, the driver was removed from the vehicle with only minor injuries.

Police identified the driver as 33-year-old Joseph Lineberry of Fairhope, Alabama. He was taken to Baldwin Health for a medical check before being arrested. Authorities charged Mr. Lineberry with driving under the influence and felony eluding law enforcement officers. Police also revealed that he was wanted by several other agencies for various misdemeanor offenses. These included attempting to elude law enforcement, third-degree assault, and third-degree domestic violence, among others.

Officials thanked partner agencies such as the Gulf Shores Police Department, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Foley Fire Department, Medstar, Baldwin EMC, and Riviera Utilities for their help during the incident. Their teamwork was crucial in safely resolving the dangerous situation that unfolded as a result of Mr. Lineberry’s actions.

Police also reminded the public to use caution in emergencies. While they appreciate the bravery of citizens and off-duty responders, officials urge people not to rush into dangerous scenes, especially when police have the area secured. Unknown hazards can exist, and there is a risk of mistaken identity in chaotic situations. Authorities ask everyone to assess each situation carefully and follow officers’ instructions if they feel the need to help.
