Each year locals celebrate the spirit of KV dedication

Kenny Vines Fishing Tournament

The Orange Beach Sportfishing Club is preparing for the upcoming Kenny Vines Memorial Tournament, an annual event that attracts anglers from across the Gulf Coast. The tournament combines competitive fishing with community tradition, honoring the late Kenny Vines, a respected figure in local sportfishing. Organizers expect a strong turnout this year, as the event has built a reputation for both its camaraderie and its competitive spirit. For many anglers, it has become not just about the catch but about honoring a shared history on the water.

This year’s tournament is scheduled for September 19 and 20, 2025, at Tacky Jack’s in Orange Beach. The captain’s meeting will take place on Friday, September 19, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. downstairs at the restaurant. Tournament rules require attendance at this meeting, which sets the stage for competition and ensures all teams understand the regulations. The weigh-in and awards party are set for Saturday evening, September 20, with scales open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and prizes announced afterward.

The entry fee is $350 per boat, which covers four anglers. Additional anglers may be added at $50 each. Tournament categories include swordfish, tuna, Wahoo, and dolphin, with a separate division for junior anglers. Catch and release will also be emphasized, reflecting broader efforts in the sportfishing community to balance competition with conservation.

Cash award options are available for teams that choose to participate, giving the tournament a competitive edge for those seeking high stakes. Beyond prizes, the event serves as a gathering point for the fishing community, with many participants returning year after year. Organizers encourage families to attend the awards party, which often doubles as a community celebration.

The tournament is presented by the Orange Beach Sportfishing Club, with support from local businesses and organizations including the Billfish Foundation, Pensacola Rubber and Gasket Company, and Tacky Jack’s. Tournament rules and registration details can be found at
