People who love Gulf Shores can now experience the city’s history in a new way. The City of Gulf Shores is releasing its first official pictorial history book, giving the community a chance to explore its journey from humble beginnings to a popular destination. The book, called Small Town, Big Beach, is packed with memorable photos and stories that highlight the people and events shaping Gulf Shores. It is designed to be a keepsake, available for anyone who loves the Alabama Gulf Coast.

The release marks a milestone for the city and its residents. City officials noted that the book project took about a year and a half to complete, under the leadership of the City and with help from PV Publications, Inc. A launch event for Small Town, Big Beach is planned for Saturday, August 23, at 4 p.m. The celebration will be held at the Gulf Shores Museum, where the public is invited to attend, meet contributors, and enjoy light refreshments.

Small Town, Big Beach stands out due to its collection of rare photos, scenic imagery, and first-hand accounts. The book includes pictures that many may have never seen before, gathered from local archives and private collections. Stories from residents and local leaders share memories of landmarks, traditions, and milestones that define Gulf Shores. The book was curated with the aim of sharing Gulf Shores' unique character and charm, even as the city has grown into a global vacation spot.

Those attending the launch will have the chance to purchase advanced copies, making them among the first to own the historic keepsake. City officials have announced that more copies will be available soon at the Gulf Shores City Store and online. Details and a sneak peek of the book can be found on the city website for anyone interested in learning more.

Programs & Events Manager Brigette Reynolds praised the new book’s ability to bring the city’s story to life for residents and visitors. She noted that the book highlights how Gulf Shores remains rooted in dedication and local spirit. With photos, stories, and scenic views, Small Town, Big Beach gives a lasting record of Gulf Shores’ transformation, ensuring its legacy lives on for future generations.
