The City of Orange Beaches Turns 40 And Will Hold Town Hall Meeting

Local citizens can review projects and ask questions during Town Hall meeting at Orange Beach Event Center

Orange Beach becomes city

The City of Orange Beach is a Class 8 Alabama municipal corporation, incorporated on August 1, 1984. Mayor Tony Kennon and the City Council will highlight the anniversary, as well as, discuss future projects during a town hall meeting August 6th, at the Orange Beach Event Center. This meeting will follow the 5 p.m. City Council meeting and work session.


The mayor will present updates on city projects and programs, including plans for The Wharf Landing property on the north side of the Intracoastal Waterway. The event will also celebrate the 40th anniversary of incorporation. Attendees will receive free keepsakes to mark the occasion.


As is tradition in Orange Beach, the Town Hall will include a session where residents can ask questions after the presentations. This provides an opportunity for community members to engage with local leaders directly.


As the City's birthdate approaches many locals reflect on the rapid growth of the community. According to the 2020 U.S Census, the City of Orange Beach had a population of 8,095. During the of peak summer season, the population in the resort town can typically be in excess of 100,000.

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.

It’s Saturday morning, the second day of the 6A Section 1 Track Meet at Saraland High School. Coach Brewer has piloted the Dolphins bus to this place several times this season, but today a thick, milky fog has engulfed the panorama, limiting the vision of what’s ahead, save for head coach Jason Hill. He’s studied today’s upcoming events and is hopeful for the upset.

A decorated urn containing human ashes washed up on Gulf Shores beach this past week, starting a mystery that local police have now solved. The container was discovered by people walking along the shore on West Beach on April 17. The urn had no name or identification on the outside.
