Chamber Hosts 2025 E-Cycling and Shred Day

Gulf Shores environmental news

The Coastal Alabama Business Chamber has announced the return of the Annual E-Cycling and Shred Day, a long-standing community event. Scheduled for Saturday, January 11, 2025, the event will run from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Gulf State Park Beach Pavilion, located at 22250 East Beach Boulevard in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

This free event, organized in partnership with the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber, the cities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Gulf State Park, and sponsor Baldwin EMC, provides an easy and efficient way for residents to safely dispose of documents and electronics. Volunteers, including Junior Leadership Coastal Alabama students, will be on hand to remove items from vehicles, ensuring attendees won’t have to lift a finger. Tips for the student volunteers are optional but appreciated, with proceeds benefiting their program.

Steve Jones, the Chamber’s Vice President of Special Events and Community Relations, emphasized the event’s impact. “We’ve done this event for well over a decade now and have really become efficient at it,” Jones said. “We run rain or shine, and folks don’t even have to exit their vehicles. It’s just a great way to help keep the community clean and clutter-free.”

Attendees can bring personal paper documents such as canceled checks, credit card statements, or utility bills to be shredded securely on-site. Each vehicle is limited to 50 pounds of shred materials, and bags or boxes should not be taped or tied.

Electronics, including televisions, computers, vacuums, printers, and power tools, will also be accepted. Batteries are not permitted, and CRT televisions will require a $30 disposal fee. All other items can be dropped off at no charge.

This annual event offers a convenient and environmentally friendly way to declutter homes and offices while supporting local youth initiatives.
