Saturday, May 2nd- Horses and saddles don't always evoke an image of elegance, unless we're talking about European horse racing. The Kentucky Derby, an event in which jockeys race their horses to the finish line, quickly became a spectacle for high society. Hosts recognized the opportunity to attract affluent crowds by encouraging betting on races and showcasing extravagant hats as symbols of status. This extravagant fashion event has become a "see and be seen" occasion that continues to resonate across the globe, even on the sunny shores and white sandy beaches. What began as a display of wealth has transformed into a blend of luck and tradition. While there won’t be any horses racing down the beach, CoastAL will be hosting a viewing party for the Kentucky Derby, complete with a hat contest. The event runs from 3 PM to 6 PM and features prizes in various categories, including Best Dressed Duo, which will win a full-day pontoon rental from Flora-Bama. For the Best Hat contest, both male and female winners will receive a $300 gift card from CoastAL in Orange Beach, redeemable at the restaurant or gift shop. Get glammed up and go all out! It's time to enjoy Derby style at the beach because everyone loves a chance to be seen and shown off from time to time.
