Orange Beach, Ala. – (GSN) – Since June 2 the Orange Beach City Council has had a vacant seat due to the resignation of Jerry Johnson. At the June 16, 2026 meeting the Place 3 seat was filled by the Mayor and Council members.

The agenda portion of the meeting started with the council voting to appoint Councilman Jeff Silvers as the Mayor Pro Tem. All of the members voted positive for the appointment. Mayor Tony Kennon voted no but the nomination of Silvers carried.

Later the Mayor proposed a resolution to replace the City Council Member for Place 3. The resolution carried and the Mayor made a motion to appoint Nelson Bauer for the seat. When the role was called for the vote only Mayor Kennon and Councilman Robertson where in the affirmative, with three members voting in the negative.

Immediately after the first appointment failed to garner the votes, Councilman Stuart proposed that Pat Simpson be nominated to fill the vacant position. The vote carried with only Mayor Kennon voting in the negative.

The appointment of a new council member is a critical step in maintaining the efficient governance of the city. The Orange Beach City Council plays a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations of the municipality, from budgeting and infrastructure projects to public safety and community development. With the Place 3 seat now filled, the Council can continue its work with a full quorum, which is essential for deliberating on local ordinances and long-term planning for the community.
