Donations Have Come From 145 Different Sponsors

Orange Beach City Schools has reached a major milestone in its effort to support students through community partnerships. Working with the Makos Academics Arts and Athletics Club, known as MAAAC, the district has now secured more than one million dollars in sponsorships. School leaders say this achievement shows how strongly families and businesses believe in their schools. They also say the new funding will directly improve opportunities for students in classrooms, arts, and sports.
The sponsorship program launched on March 1, 2025, with a goal of unifying support for all parts of student life. In just over nine months, the effort grew to include one hundred forty-five sponsors from across the Orange Beach area. The one million dollar mark was passed on December 11, 2025, during the Orange Beach Band Concert. That night, a key donation helped push the total over the seven-figure line.
The gift that carried MAAAC past the milestone came from State Representative Frances Holk Jones. She became the program’s one hundred forty-fifth sponsor when she presented a ten thousand dollar contribution at the concert. Her support marked the moment when the district officially crossed the million-dollar threshold. School officials say her involvement highlights how important the program has become in the wider community.
Superintendent Randy Wilkes called the news a defining achievement for Orange Beach City Schools. “Crossing the one million dollar mark in under a year is a powerful testament to our community’s belief in its schools,” Wilkes said. He added that “Representative Holk Jones’ leadership, paired with the strong support of every sponsor, is helping us create unmatched opportunities for our students.” District leaders say they are proud of the pace and scale of the giving.
The MAAAC sponsorship program was built to support academics, arts, and athletics through one unified effort. Since March, donations have helped fund classroom instructional improvements and new learning tools. They have also supported fine arts, performance, and musical programming across the schools. Leaders say this mix of support helps reach students with many different interests and talents.
Athletics programs are also seeing clear benefits from the sponsorships. Funds are being used for athletic equipment and team travel, as well as upgrades to facilities. Students who compete in sports now have better resources and safer gear. School officials say these improvements help student athletes perform at higher levels while also building school spirit and pride.
Academic competitions and student recognition programs are another focus of the funding. Sponsorships are helping pay for contest fees, travel, and awards that honor student achievement. The money also supports enrichment opportunities and new extracurricular activities. District leaders explain that these programs give students more chances to explore interests beyond regular classes.
Community-wide events that match the values of the “Mako Way” are also receiving backing. These events aim to bring families, students, and staff together around shared goals. By connecting people in this way, the district hopes to strengthen long-term support for its schools. Officials say the sponsorship program has become a key part of that vision.
MAAAC President Matt Fetner said he is deeply grateful to everyone who has joined the effort. “Reaching one million dollars because of our one hundred forty-fifth sponsor is a milestone we will remember,” Fetner said. “Every sponsor every single one has played a role in lifting our students and strengthening programs across Orange Beach. We are just getting started.” He said the club plans to keep building on this momentum.
Looking ahead, Orange Beach City Schools expects the impact of MAAAC sponsorships to grow through 2026 and beyond. District leaders say the funds will continue to raise the quality of academic, artistic, and athletic programs. They believe the steady flow of community support will help students for years to come. The one million dollar milestone is seen not as an end point, but as a strong beginning.
Individuals and businesses who would like to join the effort can learn more online. The district is inviting new sponsors to visit Mako Academics, Arts & Athletics to explore giving options and program details. Officials say that each new partner, no matter the size of the gift, adds to the resources available for students. They believe continued growth in sponsorships will keep Orange Beach City Schools moving forward.
